Friends one and all, the PB season is about to begin!
Opening day is June 14th. Lifeguards will be on duty for Memorial Day weekend.
Beach clean-up day will be Saturday, May 24th at 9:00 am. Refreshments will be served. Bring some garden tools (with your name on it!) and sturdy gloves. We'll be transplanting beach grass in the area where storm Sandy breached the dune. The storm fencing needs to be straightened and broken fence replaced. There's seaweed to be raked, and the rocks need to be cleaned of glass and debris. Bring your family. There's plenty of work to do!
As part of our long range planning, we are replacing worn out equipment. You will see new rope and floats from the shore to the raft and 2 new lifeguard chairs for each end of the beach. You will see Tom, our beach manager, wheeling around a new cart with oversized tires. The big tires allow the cart to move easily through the sand with a load of seaweed. Also, we are also looking into a "MobyMat", to replace the worn wooden slat walkway at the beach entrance.
We have hired security personnel who will be at the gate and walking the beach and rocks throughout the season. If you are having guests for the day, please purchase a "guest badge" from the lifeguards. All members should be wearing their badges when on Waterford Association property. Please remember that dogs are never allowed on the beach.
Cindy and Jeff Hotsky again have graciously offered their home for the seasonal Cocktail Party. The event takes place on Saturday, June 28th at 246 Shore Road, from 7-10. As always, this fun event is BYOB, and bring something yummy to share with the party-goers.
Something new! In lieu of the Beach Picnic, we will be throwing a Pizza Picnic! This event is scheduled for Saturday July 26th. Old World Pizza will be creating and serving gourmet and standard pizzas, salad, gelato and, espresso and cappuccino. Gluten free available. There is a $5.00 charge per person over 8 years of age. Sign up in advance, on the Assessment Form. To put on this event requires an accurate head count.
Assessments and dues remain the same as they have been for more than a decade. The cost of extra badges and new member fees is holding steady. The" hold" fee will increase to $100. As of this year, holding your membership in abeyance will be limited to 2 years. If you are currently in "hold" fee status you will need to make a decision about preserving your membership by 2016.
There will be a Special Meeting of the membership on Saturday, June 21st at 9 a.m. at the Goshen Firehouse. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the unresolved outcome of the 2013 season Bylaws vote. Please attend as your input is important.
The Business meeting will be held on July 12th and the Annual Meeting will be held on August 16th. All meetings begin at 9 a.m. at the Goshen Firehouse. Chairs always need to be set up and taken down, so come early and stay late!
A special thank you to our webmaster, Gary Slater, who created and maintained our website for 13 years! You'll still see Gary snapping pictures at our events, but he has passed the webmaster duties along to Annie Gourlie. The redesigned website is now up at the old address; www.pleasurebeachct.org.
