William B. Grady, 65, of West Hartford, died on Wednesday September 17th after courageously battling a brain tumor for 8 years. He is survived by his loving wife Anne and two children, Cara (son-in-law, Joel Resig) and Sean. Born in Hartford's South End, son of the late Rita and Bernard Grady, he graduated from Bulkeley High School. After graduating from CCSU, he was a teacher before leaving for a long career at Aetna. He also proudly served in the Army Reserves. He believed that faith was key in his successful fight. He celebrated each year of life after his diagnosis with an oldies dance party. With this positive outlook he was a source of inspiration and hope for others. He is also survived by his sisters Carole and Nancy, brothers Robert and John, 2 grandsons and many other family and friends. The family would like to thank all the staff at Hartford Hospital, Harry Grey Center Infusion Unit and Dr. Alexandra Flowers for her excellent care and personal touch. 




Helen J. Camerota, 104, a longtime resident of Pleasure Beach, Waterford, and Highland Beach, Fla., passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She leaves behind to celebrate her wonderful life her daughter, Maria Krawiec of Enfield; sons, Louis Camerota of Waterford, Ciro Camerota of Longmeadow, Mass. and Anthony Camerota of East Longmeadow, Mass; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, Helen wished contributions be made in her memory to the Phi Sigma Kappa Medical School Fellowship at Quinnipiac University to help fund the education of primary care physicians: Development and Alumni Affairs, Quinnipiac University, 275 Mount Carmel Ave., Hamden, CT 06518. 



Dorothy C. Powers, 92, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, in Waterford.  She was born on May 17, 1921, in Springfield, Mass., to Alan and Lucy Cruickshank. She spent the first 36 years of her life in Springfield, graduating from Commerce High School in 1939 with three years honors. Upon graduation, she found employment with the Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Company for 18 years, ending as executive secretary to the vice president of finance.  In 1957, she married Wallace Frank Powers Jr. in Springfield, Mass. Their marriage and work took them to Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey and finally back to Connecticut.   In Illinois, she again attained an executive secretary position with a vice president of Sears, Roebuck and Co. The offices were in the Sears Tower. In New Jersey she "vacationed" for a while. New, great friends offered great opportunities for rewarding socializing. Back in Fairfield, she did some secretarial work while her husband was with U.S. Electrical Motors in Milford.  In 1972, Niantic became their home where she and her husband enjoyed the sandy beaches; also the salt water on which they did some small boat sailing. There she established a chapter of Welcome Wagon in East Lyme. Not long after settling in Niantic, she decided to enter the real estate industry which she enjoyed until 2008. In 1983, she and her husband moved to Waterford.   Her life was greatly enriched by many close friends whom she dearly loved. She enjoyed golf, bridge, classical music, theater, reading, swimming, boating and socializing.  She is survived by her husband; niece, Cynthia Barton; grandniece, Hannah Barton; and grandnephew, Cole Barton, the latter three of Novato, Calif. 




Edward Sottolano, 94, of Waterford, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at his home.  He was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on Jan. 7, 1920, the son of Michael and Riika (Luotoniemi) Sottolano. He married Angelina (DiGiglio) Sottolano in Manhattan on Jan. 11, 1944; she predeceased him on March 7, 2010.  Mr. Sottolano served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as an Army medic in World War II. He was honorably discharged, and attended Hope College in Holland, Mich. He was employed as a senior medical underwriter in New York City, and worked for Manhattan Life and Metropolitan Life. His retirement was spent in Waterford with his wife and family. He was a communicant of St. Paul Church in Waterford and was a member of the Brainard Lodge of Masons.  Mr. Sottolano's family would like to thank Dr. David Goldberg and the staff at Pro-Health Physicians in Waterford; home health aids, Esmirna Bonano and Samantha Martinez; the Center for Hospice Care of Southeast Connecticut; and all the caring nurses and home health aids who cared for him in his final days.  He is survived by his son, Michael of Waterford; daughter, Dorothy Donato and her husband, Vincent, of Waterford.




Captain William Thomas Marin, USN RET, 84 of Annapolis, MD, died on Saturday, 22 February, at Sunrise Senior Living in Springfield, VA. Beloved husband for 57 year of the late Sherry McEwen Marin. Devoted father of three, William T. "Chip" (Kathy) Marin Jr. of Titusville, FL, Claudia M. Shull (Charles O'Riley) of Springfield, VA, and the late Johnathan A. Marin. He is the brother of Thomas (Joanne) Marin of Vienna, VA, and brother-in-law of Larry (Kathy) McEwen of San Francisco, CA and Connie Dorsey of New Haven, CT. He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Antonia Shull and Pamela (Adam) Foster of Alexandria, VA. Captain Marin was born in New York City. He was graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, and commissioned Ensign with the Class of 1951. He was the Commanding Officer of the 32nd Street Naval Station of San Diego, CA, from 1975-1978. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 10, at 10:00 AM at the U.S. Naval Academy Main Chapel. 




Ethel (Little) Lincoln, 97, passed away peacefully on Jan. 10, 2014, at her home in Waterford.  Ethel was born Sept. 29, 1916, to Francis and Elizabeth Little in Manchester.  Ethel was the beloved wife of Melvin E. Lincoln, who died in 2004. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage.  Ethel thoroughly loved playing golf and bridge, but her greatest joy was her flower gardens.  Ethel was predeceased by three brothers and her son, Frank W. Lincoln and daughter-in-law, Ann Lincoln. She is survived by her daughter, Rose Lincoln and husband, Gordon Hamilton, of Tacoma, Wash.; Rose's children, Lorin, Erin, and Mariah, also of Washington; her daughter, Kathryn Chesmer and husband, Robin, and their children, Lisa and Lincoln, all of Lebanon; her late son's children, Lori, who lives in Hong Kong, China, and Eric of New York City; and her daughter-in-law, Grace Lincoln of Pennsylvania. Ethel is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Sage, Willow, Grant, Braddock, and Indigo, all of Lebanon and Cooper of New York City.




Andonette L. Strazza, 91, of Waterford, entered eternal life on Oct. 26, 2013.  She was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Waterford, the daughter of the late Gerardo and Luigina (Cicirelli) Lanzalotta. She graduated from the former Chapman Technical High School, class of 1939, and later attended Willimantic Teachers College.  She married James A. Strazza on Sept. 1, 1941, in St. Joseph Church. They were married for 63 years before James died on Oct. 3, 2004.  Mrs. Strazza was a charter member of Goshen Ladies Auxiliary for over 62 years and served as treasurer from 1946 to 2008. She served on the Waterford Republican Town Committee from 1954 to 1964 and was a member of the Waterford Republican Women's Club. Mrs. Strazza was a Justice of the Peace from 1963 to 2006, and served jury duty many times. She was a member of the Goshen Bowling League and served as treasurer. She was an avid member of many card leagues such as the Goshen Pinochle Ladies, Waterford Firemen's Pinochle League, and at the Waterford Senior Center. She was a communicant of St. Paul's Church and a member and former president of the St. Paul Ladies Guild.  She is survived by her beloved daughter and son in-law, Judy and Larry Ramus of Waterford; two brothers, Nicholas Lanzalotta of Ohio and Vincent Lanzalotta of Florida.
